A detective story taking place in ancient Greece in 404 B.C., when Athens has already trespassed the zenith of its civil magnificence and power and an ominous war against Sparta threatens to burst. If that happened, Athens would have to face two enemies: Sparta, and the wealthy Athenians who hate democracy and hope that a war defeating democratic Athens could restore their power.

La giovane sostituto procuratore Margarethe Heymann viene avvicinata da un vecchio, che dieci anni prima aveva sporto denuncia contro i giudici della corte d’appello, ma non ha mai ricevuto risposta dalla procura. Inizialmente la Heymann vede nel vecchio solo un attaccabrighe, che vuole far riaprire il suo caso.

The story begins with an arrest. The police stormed an apartment early in the morning, with a couple still sleeping. The man is taken away, the woman suffers a weakness and has to be taken to hospital. Whoever is arrested there, the reader will not know.
